Arlington, VA is a very unique location due to its proximity to the nation’s capital, Washington D.C. It’s easy to think that those who live on Arlington real estate would just be able to go into Washington D.C. for their entertainment, but there’s actually plenty to do in Arlington, especially this time of the year.

So if you find yourself in Arlington, what are some things you can do in the area without trekking too far into the city? Let’s take a look.

Arlington National Cemetery

The most famous part of Arlington is the Arlington National Cemetery, a United States military cemetery. Since the Civil War, soldiers from every major U.S conflict have been buried in the cemetery. The cemetery covers 639 acres and houses thousands of veterans who sacrificed everything, making for a sight to behold.

Visiting Arlington National Cemetery is a sobering experience and reminds us of the sacrifices people have made for us to live the lives we live. There is a beauty to the Arlington National Cemetery in that regard, and being able to pay your respects in person further adds to the experience.

Theodore Roosevelt Island

Located on the Potamic River between Arlington and Washington, Theodore Roosevelt is an 88-acre island that houses a historic memorial to America’s 26th president. The island’s main attraction is the monument to Teddy Roosevelt, an American president during the early 1900s.

However, outside the monument, the island is also home to some quality walking trails that wind through forests. Roosevelt was considered a great naturalist and conservationist, so it was done in his honor. If you’re looking for a unique location to check out while you’re in Arlington, Theodore Roosevelt Island is just a quick trip away.

Fort Meyer

Located right next to the Arlington National Cemetery is the military base commonly referred to as Fort Meyer. Much like the Arlington National Cemetery, the fort has been designated a National Historic Landmark. Fort Meyer is home to the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, perhaps the most famous grave in the entire country.

Fort Meyer’s proximity to Arlington National Cemetery means that one can visit both in the same trip, and the two are often lumped together. If you plan on visiting the National Cemetery, then you definitely should take time out of your day to visit Fort Meyer.

CEB Tower

Sometimes referred to as The View of D.C, the CEB Tower is an observation deck located in Arlington. By visiting CEB Tower you can experience D.C like never before, looking out over the historic city. The tower stands almost 400 feet high and has a 360-degree view of the surrounding area.

Although located in Arlington, visiting the CEB tower is probably the best way to fully take in D.C. Additionally, the observation deck sports a champagne bar, meaning you can relax and have a good time while you take in the amazing views.

Signature Theatre

The arts are a very big part of our culture, and one of the best locations to appreciate them in the D.C area is the Signature Theatre. Located in Arlington, the Signature Theatre has long been an iconic part of the area.

In fact, the theatre has even won a Tony Award. Primarily the theatre produces contemporary musicals and plays, but they also perform classic plays and musicals as well. If you’re in the area and want to experience the performing arts, the Signature Theatre is the perfect place to do so.
